If they hang out with the eugenic
Handicap and cultural climate
Carlo Bellieni
A strong protest was raised in Italy at the news that the Veneto region proposed to be denied access to organ transplants, people with severe mental handicap. The reaction on the basis of available information was correct, but the region has quickly made clear: no one in Italy, let alone in the Veneto region, is discrimination in access to health. This cheers: If someone wants to use a selective criterion for entitlement to health, not on the basis of the utility for the patient, but based on what the patient "deserves" it would create an unacceptable discrimination.
said, makes you think the reaction of amazement that followed the news: strange, because unfortunately in the West, genetic discrimination is an everyday occurrence, and accepted in practice. Today, perhaps we do not live in a civilization that can not give birth to babies conceived for people with disabilities? And we do not live in a world that does not know what to do even the disabled person already born?

Do Nys Driver's Id Hologram Fade
For a broad and hopeful vision of human reason
The second general audience dedicated St. Thomas Aquinas
between faith and reason, but there is no separation "mutual and beneficial partnership." He said the Pope's general audience Wednesday, June 16, in St. Peter's Square, speaking of the theological method and philosophy of Saint Thomas Aquinas.
Dear brothers and sisters,
today I would like to continue the presentation of St. Thomas Aquinas, a theologian of the value that the study of his thought has been explicitly recommended by the Second Vatican Council in two documents, the decree Optatam totius on training for the priesthood, and the declaration Gravissimum educationis, which is Christian education. Moreover, already in 1880 Pope Leo Xiii his great admirer and promoter of Thomistic studies, he wanted to declare Saint Thomas the patron of Catholic schools and universities.
The main reason for this lies not only in appreciation of his teaching content but also in the method adopted by him, especially his new synthesis and the distinction between philosophy and theology. The Fathers of the Church is faced with different kind of Platonic philosophy, where we had a full view of the world and of life, including the question of God and religion. In comparison with these philosophies, they themselves have developed a comprehensive view of reality from the faith and using elements of Platonism, to answer key questions men. This view, based on biblical revelation and Platonism properly prepared using the light of faith, they called her "our philosophy". ... read more, SRM (courtesy of L'Osservatore ) Romano

library is in the volume edited by Wojciech Ireneus Kornzeniowski For a hermeneutic truthful (Roma, Città Nuova, 2010, 440 pages, € 30) which collects a series of studies on the philosophical work of Gaspare Walls. We publish excerpts from the Foreword to the book written by Archbishop president of the Pontifical Council for Culture.
Gianfranco Ravasi
We would like to freely cast a look at that word that is central to the philosophical system of Gaspare Mura, which is the truth. We do this primarily recalling the calls of the last two Popes, John Paul II and Benedict XVI, but taking into account just the square replete where ordinary people who, without knowledge of Protagoras, he repeated existentially the claim that "man is the measure of all things" in a very brisk and immediate: , there is no absolute truth that precedes us, but it is the individual or group to determine it in concrete situations and changing and according to the interests or benefits contingent. That's what we classify as "subjectivism" or, to use a term dear to Benedict XVI, as "relativism."
The classical approach of the relationship with the truth is, however, was very different. We could make - Always keep this level for the crowd agora daily - with an aphorism of Minima Moralia (1951) Adorno: "The truth is not the" ha ", but there" is ", like happiness." Yeah Man Without Qualities (1930-43) Robert Musil said: "The truth is not a crystal that you can put in your pocket, but a boundless sea where you dive." The truth is seen, therefore, as an absolute primum that precedes us and to which the research man tents. The reason is inherently need this food for its own operation, as in a highly symbolic reminded the Phaedrus Plato: "The reason that so hard to bring souls to see the Plain of Truth is this: the food suited to the better part of the soul comes from the grass that is there and the nature of the wing with which the soul can fly feeds on just this "(248 bc).
